Thankful… I’ve Got Jesus
On May 29th of this year, my husband and I flew to the Florida Keys to meet my baby sister, Debbie for a week-long sisters’ vacation (My husband came alone to keep us out of trouble). Since my son Ryan and his family hadn’t seen their aunt in a while, they drove done from Ft. Lauderdale to surprise her and spend two days with us.
She burst into excitement when they walked out on the patio of our hotel suite. The shrills reflected a lot of love. We started planning our “to do list” for the two days they would spend with us…. go to the beach, swim at the resort pool, tour, shop, and of course, eat.
On the morning of the tour and shopping excursion, my grandkids came to our room to be with us while their mom and dad finished getting ready. The girls talked about what they wanted to buy and how much money they stashed in their wallets. My seven-year-old grandson, “Judgy,” stood by me and started naming what he wanted to get. When he completed his list, the conversation went like this:
Debbie: “That’s a lot of things, Judgy. How much money do you have?”
Judgy: “I don’t have any money.”
Debbie: “Then how are you going to buy anything?”
Judgy: (with bold confidence, he grabbed my hand and looked up at me) “I’ve got NanaCUTE!”
Debbie: (howling with laughter) “Wow… well, I guess you heard that NanaCUTE.”
Me: (speechless…)
Debbie and I pursued the conversation a little further, and Judgy thanked me in advance before even receiving any money. He never wavered in his belief of NanaCUTE’s provision.
My mind instantly went to the confidence Judgy displayed in me based on his experiences with me. He didn’t worry about his need for money. With childlike faith, he just believed NanaCUTE would meet his needs.
What if we responded to our situations like Judgy? What if we never wavered in our belief of Jesus’ provisions? When we find ourselves short of money; when our health fails; when challenges hit our marriages; when children go left; when we need direction and guidance; when we can’t figure out how things will turn out; when life hits us hard…. we should be able to stand boldly with confidence and look up and say, “I’ve got Jesus!”
We may not know how our finances will be met; how our health will be restored; how our marriages will be mended or how our children will get back on the right path. We lack answers to many of life’s challenges we face daily. But with childlike faith, we ought to just respond as Judgy did by saying, “I’ve got Jesus!” We don’t need to know how He will do it.
But because of Jesus’ character and our experiences with Him, we can thank Him in advance and just believe He will do it!
I don’t know about you, but this Thanksgiving as I celebrate with family and friends, the most important thing I am so thankful for is that “I’ve got Jesus.” With Him, I possess everything I need. Why? Simply …
